The Project
The COVID-19 Pandemic put a stop to many things in the world, including a very strong passion of mine - marching band. The cancelled 2020 season was my last season in the band, so I turned to design to help keep it a part of me during that fall semester.
The 150th anniversary of the Spartan Marching Band was a celebrated topic, so I decided that I wanted to complete a project that highlights the extensive history of the band. I recalled seeing large infographic timelines, so I decided on that format and began my work.

My partner was creating miniature history documentaries at the same time I began working on this project, so he shared all his research, findings, and resources with me. I sorted through all the information, organized it into chronological order, and selected the topics that I wanted to include in this project.
Organization
While discussing Spartan Marching Band (SMB) history, events are often taught and recalled by who the director of the band was at that time. Additionally, some directors have a more prominent place in the SMB's history, such as Leonard Falcone. By structuring the infographic around the directors, viewers can easily view how long that person was director and which events occurred during their leadership.
Conclusion
This was a challenging and fun project to complete during a difficult time in the SMB's history. I learned a lot about how information can be displayed in infographics and how visual consistencies (such as assigning colors to specific items) can help viewers make connections.
