Event Marketing
The Project
The Michigan State University College of Music hosts an annual Performing Arts Camp for high school students who participate in drumline, color guard, or are drum majors for their schools. I was approached by the College of Music to help them promote their event for the summer of 2021.
As the sole designer on this project, I designed a logo and a "save the date" marketing graphic for them to use on merchandise and to advertise for the event.
The Logo
While brainstorming ideas for this logo, I considered the goals of this event: education and recruitment. All the students who attend the camp get to learn from Spartan Marching Band instructors and alumni. The attendees work very hard and get a lot accomplished within just a few short days.
On top of learning a lot about their discipline, they also get a glimpse of what their experience would be like if they attended MSU and participated in the marching band.
For the logo, I chose to outline and feature the structure of Spartan Stadium. It is the main venue where the Spartan Marching Band performs, and it represents the end goal for many participants: auditioning into the Spartan Marching Band and getting to finally perform in Spartan Stadium.
Marketing
Once the logo was created and approved, I began working on the graphic to highlight the event. I added a few relevant details to elevate the graphic:
The lines of a football field create a texture in the background behind the logo.
The colored spotlights draw attention to the logo and represent the stadium lights shining onto the field.
The colors of the spotlights are pulled directly from Michigan State University's official color palette.
Conclusion
This project taught me the importance of considering the smallest details because of the difference that they can make. I really enjoyed working on this project, and I hope that the students who attended got to go on to achieve their goal of marching in the stadium!
