Band Logo Design

The Project

The L'Anse Creuse High School Band program approached me to help them their brand. They did not have a defined visual identity, and they were seeking a cohesive brand to keep up with other bands in the area.

As the sole designer on this project, I designed a logo with variations so they could uniquely define themselves.

The Logo

I created several variations of the logo to suit their different needs, such as uploading to their website, profile photos in messaging applications, merchandise, and more.

While crafting the logo, I carefully took their vision into consideration. They specified that they wanted musical elements within the logo without it looking too generic. With this information, I wanted to use unique elements make this logo undeniably theirs. Aside from pulling inspiration from their mascot, the Lancer, I used a few familiar elements to make this possible.

The "LC"

Within the curvature of the plume, I added the letters "LC." After each rehearsal, the band meets on the "LC" in the center of the field to wrap up and dismiss. These initials are a defining factor of this ensemble.

The High School Fight Song

The neck of the Lancer contains music notes on a music staff. However, these are not just any random notes. If played on a musical instrument, these notes would sound the last two measures of the school fight song, a symbol of pride for the high school.

The Collar

The square within the collar defines the chest of the Lancer in the logo, but it also pays a tribute to their marching band uniforms. These uniforms feature a square mirror on the chest, and I chose to represent the lancer in their logo with the same feature.

Conclusion

This project taught me how to carefully consider all the needs and requests of the clients. I also had the chance to experiment with implementing a color palette that brought life to the logo, and I will know how to curate a relevant color palette for future projects.
